Instructions

Center Column
1.   To make center column, use glue gun to glue together three cake rounds, applying glue only to three-inch diameter center of each one. (This allows edges to be carved without running into glue.)
2. Use metal ruler to find top center of column and use pencil to insert a hole to mark. With pencil and ruler, draw lines (that will indent STYROFOAM™) going through the center – horizontally and vertically. Then, bisect those lines to create a total of eight evenly marked sections on top of column.
Place column horizontally, on its side, on work surface. Now use ruler and pencil to draw (impress) horizontal lines along length of column, creating eight evenly marked sections.
3.  With Foam Cutter, on one long line make a 1/2″ deep cut. Then 1/2″ from each side of line, make long, beveled cuts that extend back to the first center cut. Remove and save scrap wedges. Use wedge of STYROFOAM™ to sand cut edges to make rounded scallop. Repeat to make a total of eight scallops around column.

Rounding edges
4. Trim off one side of large block to make it 11 7/8″ square. On all STYROFOAM™pieces (except two 1 7/16″ x 5 7/8″ discs, hearts, eggs and column), run back of tablespoon, angled on edge and press to slightly round. (Note: This compresses the STYROFOAM™.)
5.  To assemble, stack and use glue gun to attach pieces in following order from bottom to top:
1 15/16″ x 11 7/8″ x 11 7/8″ block; 12″ beveled ring; one 9″ x 1 1/4″ x 3/4″ wreath, previously-made column; other 9″ x 1 1/4″ x 3/4″ wreath; two 1 7/16″ x 5 7/8″ discs; 8 7/8″ x 1 3/16″ disc and 12″ x 12” x 1″ block.

Sculpting Details  (Note: If too much is cut off when sculpting, hot glue a piece back on and trim or resculpt.)
6.  For one shell, cut one egg in half lengthwise. On one half, measure and cut 1 1/2″ off narrow end and discard. With Foam Cutter, cut two lines 1/8″ deep, from curved bottom (1 1/4″ apart) to cut top (5/8″ apart). Then, to angle thickness of shell, slice off a wedge from bottom, angled down as you go to top where you will have removed about 1/2″deep. Re-cut to extend previous long lines 1/8″ deep. In the same manner as the center column, make beveled cuts 1/8″ from lines. Use STYROFOAM™ wedge to sand. To complete shell, cut off slice from each side of shell (from bottom to top 1/4″ deep) and sand to make shell shape. Repeat with other egg half and remaining eggs for a total of eight shells. (Note: Try to make shells as similar as possible. But due to variations, match up pairs of shells for each side of column.)
7.  Vertically cut hearts in half and use STYROFOAM™ wedge to round edges. Referring to photo for placement, fit heart half in corner, trimming ends a little at a time to fit. Glue in place. Repeat with remaining heart pieces.
8. Referring to photo, similarly trim tops of shell pairs (a little at a time) to fit and place between heart halves. Glue in place.

 Spraying Pedestal
9.  In a well-ventilated, newspaper-covered area, spray two light coats of white spray paint. Let dry thoroughly between coats.  Then, spray light coats of ColorTex until desired look is achieved. Let thoroughly dry, at least over night.
10. Practice spraying Home Décor Stain on newspaper to gauge control of spray. Carefully and lighly spray recessed areas on column and accent bottoms and edges of surfaces. (Note: If an area gets too dark, let dry and respray with ColorTex, then Home Décor Stain.
