Creating a Mission building is a typical project in the California school system.  We do not want to take away from the student’s research and creativity, but do offer general helpful hints and template to build a Mission building with STYROFOAM™ Brand Foam.  Our foam is great for creating projects and light weight to carry to school.

STYROFOAM™ Brand Foam:
Three – Sheets: 12x24x1/2”
Other Materials:
Textured paints; White Crackle, Tan Stucco, Terra Cotta
Acrylic paints; pale blue, brown
Pallet Knife
Paint Brushes
Small Wedding Bells
Design It: ® Foam Cutter or Serrated Knife
Low-Temp Glue Gun
Black Marker

Helpful Hints

  1. Measure, trace with black marker and cut out all the mission house pieces as indicated on the templates provided; or from your templates.  Cut out the doors and window openings.
  2. Glue the walls together first, then glue on the gable ends and then the roof pieces.  Glue the side building to the main building as shown.
  3. Paint the mission to resemble the actual building. Let dry.  Texture the terra cotta paint on the roof to look like clay tiles.
  4. Paint the bells brown and let dry.  Thread the bells onto toothpicks and glue the toothpicks to the mission towers to hold the bells in place.
