Instructions:
  1. Foam discs may be sprayed and glued without shaping, but if a “sculpted” look is desired, the following is optional: Use Foam Cutter or serrated knife to trim the top edge of each disc – simply saw away an approximately 1/2″ wide strip, all around the edge. Then smooth the rounded edge by gently pressing the cut area on the table and rotating it as you press.
  2. Refer to photo to shape the smallest disc into a muzzle: Use the small blade on the Foam Cutter to make a cut that goes about halfway down into the foam and runs about 4″ long from the bottom center straight up, stopping about 2″ from the top center. Gently chip away at the cut to shape it into a gradual groove being careful not to cut all the way through. Also cut away the bottom of the groove to create rounded jowls, rounding edges as you did with edge of disc. Then cut ball in half, saving one half for another project.
  3. In a well-ventilated area, cover work area with newspaper. Spray the largest diameter disc October Brown. Spray the other two discs Ivory. Spray the ball half Black. Let dry.
  4. Refer to photo to stack and hot glue discs on top of one another, largest to smallest diameter, noting that Ivory muzzle disc is aligned at the top of the other Ivory disc. For nose, glue black ball half at top of muzzle disc.
  5. Use pencil on copy paper to sketch 11″ long teardrop for ear and 5″ long teardrop for tongue. Round points of teardrops. Compare sketch to stacked discs to see if you like the ear shape. Re-sketch as needed. Then, place a second sheet of copy paper under ear sketch and cut out both sheets at the same time to get two ear patterns. Also cut out tongue pattern.
  6. Trace each ear pattern onto Sand Raindrop paper and cut out. Then refer to photo to draw two ameba shape spots on each ear pattern. Cut out spot patterns and trace onto Brown Velveteen paper. Cut out brown spots and glue to their correct ears, using glue stick. Let dry.
  7. For ear support, tightly twist together four chenille stems. Curve twisted stems to fit on back of one ear with one end of twisted stems extended 1/2″ beyond the small end of ear, and the rest of the twisted stems going down the middle of the ear. Glue with hot glue. Repeat with other ear. Position ears on head disc, up or down, as desired. Gently shape twisted stems to curl and bend ears into a fun look. Then press twisted chenille stems into edge of disc and secure with hot glue.
  8. To accent eyes, cut two 2″ circles from Black Raindrop paper. Glue them slightly tucked under larger Ivory disc. Glue wiggle eyes on top of each circle, just touching disc. (Note: Keep eyes low for a cute look.) Push three brown brads into each muzzle and glue tongue with narrow end tucked under muzzle. If desired, ripple and glue tongue to hold.
  9. Curl wire of butterfly around pencil. Insert wire end into top of head. Shape wire and butterfly as desired. For hanger loop, repeatedly bend to break paper clip. Discard smaller half. On top back of puppy’s head, insert ends of clip into foam and secure with hot glue. When dry, hang puppy from loop, for a fun 20″ wide wall display in a child’s room or classroom!
