Tack 1000 Spray Adhesive
Wired burlap ribbon, 2 1/2″ wide x 1 1/2 yd. length, natural
Red berry floral stems, two 18″ lengths (approx.)
Green pine sprays with pinecones, two 37″ lengths (approx.)
4 1/4″ wide x 71″ length white birch paper ribbon, five rolls
Glue stick
Sandpaper
Ruler
Two old pencil or dowels
Large paper plate
Old newspapers
Large cardboard box (for spraying)
Glue gun and glue sticks

Instructions

  1. In a well-ventilated, newspaper-covered area (inside cardboard box), spray inside and outside of metal box October Brown and let dry. Then spray outside with Brilliant Gold and let dry.
  2. Horizontally sand outside of metal box with fine sandpaper to rough up and distress surface. (Allow brown to show through in blotches for the best distressed effect.)
  3. Measure and draw with marker, lines to divide one Foam Block into six 2″ x 18″ long strips. (Last strip will be slightly narrower but that’s okay.) Use metal ruler and Foam Cutter to cut strips. Repeat with other Block.
  4. Measure, mark and then cut Foam strips to the following lengths: 16″ (2″ left over); two 14″ (4″ left over on each) and three 12″ (6″ left over on each).
  5. On one of each: 12″, 14″ and 16″, shape the lengths into cylinders (rods) by trimming off corners as follows: Set 12″ length on end and use Foam Cutter to vertically slice off each corner, making it 8-sided. Then trim off each of those “corners” to round it more. You can smooth rods by rubbing with another piece of Foam and pressing as you roll on table (however they do not have to be completely smooth since paper ribbon will cover it.) Repeat with other lengths. (Note: Longer ones can be left in horizontal position on table and trimmed.)
  6. Make larger, 4″ diameter logs by gluing together four Foam lengths, applying line of hot glue up middle of each length, one at a time, and connecting in four-square arrangement. Then trim off corners and smooth to make 4″ diameter rods. (Note: Avoid applying glue near corners that need to be cut away.)
  7. Since short ends on all rods won’t be covered, spray them with Vanilla and let dry. Then lightly mist with Glossy Wood Tone. Let dry.
  8. Use Floral Shears to cut birch paper ribbon to apply lengthwise or widthwise, depending on the printed grain of the paper. Generously apply glue stick to rod and press paper ribbon in place. Add as many lengths as needed to cover rod so that paper edges overlap about ¼”. Then repeat with all rods, including 4″ diameter ones. Let dry.
  9. Fill paper plate with Winter Snow from bag. Insert pencil into each Foam Ball to hold while spraying. In spraying area, apply spray adhesive onto one Foam Ball. Roll sticky ball into snow on plate until totally covered and no longer sticky. (Hint: Leave pencil in ball and insert other end of pencil into scrap foam or drinking glass to let dry.) Repeat with other Ball.
  10. Randomly arrange cylinder on end in box. Nestle one snowball into arrangement and set other on table beside box (so that hole from pencil doesn’t show). Use Wire Cutter to cut apart pine spray into varying lengths that can be tucked in between birch cylinders. Similarly, cut apart berry spray into clusters that can be tucked into arrangement. If desired, hot glue contact areas to hold arrangement in place.
  11. Use Floral Shears to cut 1 1/2 yd. length wired burlap ribbon. Wrap ribbon around box and tie in knot at front. Hot glue knot in place on box. Place arrangement where it will be displayed. Sprinkle additional snow all over arrangement and table area, as though it has just snowed.
