Instructions

  1. For the large spider:  Use the knife tool to cut off not quite half of the 3” ball.  The larger portion of the ball is the body, cut side down.  Use the knife tool to cut small flat sections off the ball on opposite sides; this gives the body a more oval shape.  Use the rasp tool to sand and shape the body into a rounded oval.  Shape the smaller portion of the remainder of the ball into an oval for the head, cut side down.   The smaller spiders are made repeating the steps for the large spider but using a 2” ball. Attach the heads to the bodies.  Glue toothpicks between the head and bodies for a more secure hold.  Paint the spiders black and set aside to dry.
  2. Attach the spiders’ legs.  Use eight stems for the large spider.  Twist them together in twos so that you have four double stems twisted together.  Bend each double stem in half.  Now you have four pairs of legs.  Glue the legs into the body; two pairs on each side.  The small spider’s legs are made using 2 stems cut in half.  Bend each half in half so that you have four pairs of legs.  Glue the legs into the body then glue the eyes in place on the spiders.
  3. Paint the letters purple and while the paint is still wet sprinkle with purple glitter.  Set aside to dry.
  4. Wrap the wreath completely with the dark grey yarn by gluing one end of the yarn to the back of the wreath and wrapping loosely for an even look.  Now glue the end of the purple yarn to the back of the wreath.  Wrap loosely, crisscrossing and overlapping in all directions around the wreath.  Wrap a few strands of yarn across the middle of the wreath in a few directions to look like webbing.
  5. Pull apart the spider web and pin it across the front of the wreath.  Pin a thick bunch of web to the bottom of the wreath as shown.  Glue the letters in place.
  6. Glue the spiders in place on the wreath as shown.  Pin a piece of grey or purple yarn at the bottom of the wreath and to the bottom of a small spider and let it hang from the wreath.
