  1. Before removing plastic, place Foam Block on cutting mat and use ruler and permanent marker to draw lines to cut two 5″ x 11-15/16″ pieces from it. Use serrated knife to cut along lines. (Note: Cut through plastic and foam layers with several passes of the knife, keeping knife perpendicular to foam so that edges are straight.)
Set one aside for base. Inside other one, trace pattern to make one “d”. With remaining piece, plan how to place pattern to make other “d” and one “a” fit. (Note: Cut pattern along dotted line to make “a” pattern.) Trace patterns and cut.
  2. To smooth and round all edges/corners, press Foam edge down onto table with even pressure as you rotate and smooth.
  3. Squeeze yellow paint onto paper plate and use large brush to paint top and sides of base yellow. Similarly, paint all sides of letters: “d’s” the two shades of green and the “a” blue. Let dry.
  4. Position photos behind each letter opening and tape to hold. (Note: If tape doesn’t stick well, apply hot glue to tape and press back in place.)
  5. Before assembling, use toothpicks to connect letters to base, to be sure they are where you want them (at an angle) and to reinforce the connection. Use glue gun to assemble.
  6. From cardstock, draw four 1 3/4″ wide x 2″ long triangular flags. Punch 1/8″ holes into each corner. Use marker to write “B”, “E”, “S”, and “T” on flags. Thread butcher’s twine through flags and center them on twine. Drape between “d’s” and tie bows in twine where twine touches letters. Hot glue, trim tails to about 4″ and let them drape down.
  7. Optional: Glue row of alternating color bottle caps to front of base.
